A Guide To Satellite TV Dishes
Best Satellite TV Dishes
Satellite TV dishes are an essential component of the satellite TV system, without which the latter mentioned cannot function. They are instruments to obtain satellite TV programming. Technically speaking, satellite dishes represent a particular class of parabolic reflector antenna. The purpose of this antenna is to caption the signal transmitted from a larger broadcasting satellite, situated in geostationary orbit. Once the TV dish gets the signal, it channels it to the receiver which processes and converts it into the sound and images broadcast on the TV.
TV dishes have various sizes and designs. The standard one is constituted of a parabolic surface and a central feed horn. The bowl-shaped component reflects the satellite signal inward into the feed horn. The functioning principle resembles that of a concave mirror that focuses the light on a certain point. Within the feed horn, there is a low-noise blockdown converter (LNB) that filters the noise from the signal, amplifying it. The processed signal is sent to the receiver under the form of audio images.
Initially of large dimensions, satellite dishes have been modified and innovated so that their sizes no longer take too much space. The dishes (comprised of the antenna and the LNB converter) and the satellite TV receiver form the Satellite TV system.
In order to better define the notion of satellite dishes, a classification has to be presented. There are two types of satellite TV systems that resort to different kinds of satellite TV dishes.
The former is represented by the TVRO (television receive-only) satellite system and was used in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The standard dimension was between 6 and 12 feet in length. It contained motors which allowed the dish to alter its position in order to receive signals from more than one satellite.
The second type of satellite TV system replaced the former one and it is called DBSTV (direct broadcast satellite) system. The diameter of the dish is of 18 inches or less. The DBS TV system has become the standard satellite TV transmitter. Along with the technological progress, the satellite TV dish is adjusted in order to improve the level of quality.
